Final Phase Of Silos Collapse Could Happen At Any Moment

The fires that have plagued the Beirut port’s grain silos risk completely destroying the remaining silo structures “at any time from now,” according to AFP journalist Layal Abou Rahal.

On July 31, 52 years after their initial construction, the northern blocks of the silos collapsed. In the next phase, anywhere between four and ten columns of the silos may collapse in one go.

The silos’ collapse has eerily synchronized with the 2nd anniversary of the August 4 explosion.

Having become a symbol of the continued injustice at the heart of the port, many had hoped their remains could ensure the crimes of the blast would not be forgotten.
