According to
Lebanon24, the municipality of Zgharta-Ehden chose to end the week by issuing a racist decision evicting all “foreign workers” from the Northern towns.
The municipality announced that all “foreign workers” had until September 25 to leave the town, stating that they would otherwise be facing prosecution.
This is not the first time municipalities in Lebanon engage in racism or prejudice against Syrians and other foreigners, including migrant workers. Previously, the Nahr Ibrahim municipality
issued a similar decision forbidding Syrians and “other foreigners” from roaming the streets between 9PM and 6AM.
These municipalities also cloak their racism by using terms like “foreigners” when in fact they are targeting Syrians. It would be interesting to see these municipalities expel Swedes, Russians, and Americans — also foreigners.
