Nahr Ibrahim Municipality Issues Racist Rule Regarding Syrians And “Foreigners”

Nahr Ibrahim Municipality started off this week off on the wrong foot by issuing a statement forbidding Syrians and “other foreigners” (are Swedes and French people subject to this new rule?) from roaming the streets between 9PM and 6AM.

The municipality also stated that Syrians and foreigners leaving their place of residence or having visitors at night is no longer permitted for “the safety and well-being of the townspeople”, threatening whoever violates these newly issued rules with being kicked out of the town.

This statement came after they noticed “unjustified roaming” of foreigners and Syrians last night in the neighbourhood, which “sparked suspicion”.

This is not the first time municipalities in Lebanon engage in racism or prejudice against Syrians and other foreigners, including migrant workers. What is truly unjustified is the unfair treatment they are subjected to on a daily basis.
