The Nun: Yet Another Movie Banned In Lebanese Cinemas

On his Twitter profile, movie critic Anis Tabet revealed that the 2018 horror flick “The Nun” has officially been banned from screening in cinemas across Lebanon.

Presumably, the ban was evoked by Lebanese priests due to scenes deemed offensive to Christian faith and was advised against general viewing.

The movie’s plot revolves around a young nun in Romania who takes her own life, a priest with a haunted past, and a malevolent force in the form of a demonic nun. The film was criticized for an inconsistent and weak narrative, but praised for its well-planned scares.

The most terrifying part, however, is the interference of Lebanese religious figures with movie screening decisions.

This is not the first time a movie has been banned from cinemas in Lebanon. Similar censorship incidents have been practiced on Anabelle 2, The Conjuring 2, Spotlight, Sheikh Jackson, and Rings.
