An Italian Retrospective: Mastroianni and Gassman

On the occasion of its 11th retrospective, Metropolis is partnering once again this year with the Italian Institute in Beirut to pay tribute to the acclaimed actors Marcello Mastroianni and Vittorio Gassman: nine of their major films will be screened in cinema Metropolis Empire Sofil.

Marcello Mastroianni, undoubtedly the most famous italian actor in the world of international cinema, has won several awards including the Golden Palm in 1960. He has alternated his roles in Italian comedies like Divorce Italian Style by Pietro Germi, and The Big Feast by Marco Ferreri.
His career as an actor led him to work with major Italian directors but also with foreign directors. We have also the opportunity to discover during this retrospective one of the biggest actors who has occupied a unique place in the Italian cinema : Vittorio Gassman. We will discover some of his most talented works like The Desert of the Tartars by Valerio Zurlini, and many others yet to discover soon at Metropolis Cinema.

The retrospective will open with the film Divorce Italian Style by Dino Risi at 8 PM ; this film is one of the most representatives paintings of Italy’s well-being and economical miracle of that period. Metropolis has also the pleasure to present the major films of these actors, including Il Bell’Antonio (Golden Leopard, 1960 Locarno film festival), and Scent of a Woman (Best Actor for Vittorio Gassman, 1975 Cannes film festival).
