Lebanon’s Minister of Education, Rima Karami, has revealed that the government will be cancelling this year’s Brevet exams, suggesting they be replaced with school-based assessments.
The decision stems from several challenges, including financial constraints and security concerns, particularly following the war on Lebanon. These issues have disrupted the educational environment, making the administration of standardized national exams increasingly difficult.
This isn’t the first instance of Brevet exam cancellations in Lebanon. In previous years, similar decisions were made due to public health concerns (COVID-19) and logistical challenges following the financial crisis. The recurring nature of these cancellations has sparked discussions about the exam’s future and the need for potential reforms in Lebanon’s educational assessment framework.
