Remembering Roberto Cavalli And His Legacy In Beirut

The fashion world mourns the loss of iconic designer Roberto Cavalli, who passed away on April 12, 2024, at the age of 83. While his legacy in the world of fashion is undeniable, let’s take a moment to reminisce about his impact on the culinary scene, particularly in Beirut.

One of Cavalli’s notable ventures was the opening of Cavalli Caffè in Beirut on January 4, 2013. The grand inauguration drew a crowd of celebrities, including Cavalli himself, alongside Lebanese superstars Haifa Wehbe and Nancy Ajram.

Cavalli Caffè wasn’t just another eatery; it was an embodiment of Cavalli’s signature maximalist style and sophistication. The café boasted a tantalizing menu of Italian cuisine, perfect for everything from morning brunches to glamorous evenings out. Located in the heart of Beirut, within the Karagulla Building near the Beirut Souks and overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, it quickly became a hotspot for the city’s 1%.

The café’s interior exuded Cavalli’s creative flair, with zebra and giraffe prints adorning the walls, fashionable chairs and sofas, and striking contemporary details throughout. Additionally, a boutique shop offered patrons the chance to take home imported Italian delicacies, further enhancing the luxurious experience.

Reflecting on the venture, Cavalli expressed his passion for beauty and sensuality, stating, “Experiencing the enjoyment of exquisite food and surrounded by pleasant company, sipping a delicious cup of Italian coffee… this is the Cavalli Caffè philosophy.” His vision resonated deeply with Beirut’s vibrant culture and cosmopolitan lifestyle.

The cafe and restaurant closed down in 2016.
