Wadih El Sheikh Released Just One Day After Arrest
News of Wadih El Sheikh’s arrest has been making rounds on social media after he and a group of armed individuals stormed the emergency unit of a hospital in Saida and reportedly threatened the medical staff.
Apparently, the…singer? arrived at the hospital with his father-in-law who had sustained a hip injury before the situation escalated.
However, his arrest was short-lived as he was released only a day later. According to Sky News Arabia, El Sheikh was released because he was carrying a licensed weapon and the hospital did not press any charges.
Back in May 2022, El Sheikh was linked to a shooting that took place in Hazmieh, and there had been a pending request for him to appear for questioning. El Sheikh fled to Congo before the judicial request was issued.
The whole situation sparked outrage on social media, as many users pointed out the bank hold-ups that took place just last week. Depositors stormed several banks over the span of four days to reclaim their frozen funds, including Sally Hafiz and Mohammad Korkmaz – both of whom were using toy guns. Many depositors have since been held for questioning by the authorities.
Although the depositors had only been reclaiming their own money that has been stuck in the faulty Lebanese banking system since the beginning of the crisis, the authorities found their mobilization to be a greater criminal offence than the El Sheikh incident…but we can see how a toy gun is more threatening.
