The Film Scene in Lebanon: The Importance Of Art In A Collapsing Economy

At the height of Lebanon’s crises, Lebanon’s art culture struggles to keep the few who rely on it afloat. Feature film screenings are on the rise, and we are more grateful for that than ever. Here are a few venues working to keep the art scene alive.

1. Metropolis Cinema

Metropolis Cinema is a nonprofit organization that screens scheduled Arab-based films and TV shows.

They are planning on screening the Terdad program on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th of July, and also feature reality screen shows in different locations.

2. Aflamuna

Under the motto, “Culture is a right; Cinema is a right!” Aflamuna features some of the best, most thought-provoking, and independently produces works of Arab cinema, and it’s for free. They want to keep providing free access to independent Arab cinema for audiences across the world.

They aim to feature films of different genres and different filmmakers, ones that invoke a sense of thoughtfulness and nostalgia in the viewer.
