Lebanese Parliament Passes Law Criminalizing Sexual Harassment

A major milestone.

The Lebanese parliament has reportedly issued a law criminalizing sexual harassment in Lebanon during a session currently underway at UNESCO Palace.

According to Lebanese journalist Timour Azhari, the law also includes sexual harassment in the workplace.

Previously, legal text on harassment and its penalty in Lebanon had been unclear. There were no articles in the penal code that criminalized sexual harassment, as it only mentioned rape and “unethical” behavior.

If this law were to be implemented decently, it would change what activists and feminists have been advocating for, for a very long time.

Let’s hope they don’t disappoint.
