Lebanese Gov’t Appoints New Security Officials – Here are Their Names

In a meeting today, Lebanon’s new government headed by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam announced the new officials that will be heading up various security positions. Here are their names, and a brief on who they are:

Commander of the Lebanese Army: General Rudolph Haykal

General Haykal was previously the commander of the Operations Division in the Lebanese army. Throughout his career, Haikal assumed the role of Commander of the South Litani Sector.

Director of General Security: General Hassan Choucair

General Choucair was previously Deputy Director of State Security. Starting his career in 1992 at the military academy, Choucair has since risen through the ranks and held critical intelligence positions.

Director of the Internal Security Forces (ISF): General Raed Abdallah

General Abdallah has a background in intelligence, with much of his career being dedicated to the ISF’s Information Division. Throughout his career, Abdallah led many investigations into counter-terrorism.

Director of State Security: General Edgar Lawandos

General Lawandos is a senior officer in the Lebanese Army. He previously held key positions of command in the South of Litani sector where he coordinated heavily with the UNIFIL forces.
