After four years of closure, the beloved Metropolis Cinema will officially reopen this week in the heart of Mar Mikhael!
In 2008, the Metropolis Association moved to the Sofil Center, gaining recognition for screening blockbuster films and hosting remarkable festivals. They curated dynamic programs for cinephiles while championing local, Arab, and international creative talents in the film industry.
The economic crisis of 2019 compelled them to halt operations. More recently, enemy aggressions against Lebanese territories further delayed their official reopening, originally scheduled for early October.
As the community works to rebuild, heal, and pursue justice, Metropolis reaffirms its belief in cinema’s power to inspire and bring people together. On December 21, 2024 at 8 PM, it will open its new venue in Mar Mikhael, welcoming film enthusiasts, artists, and friends for a special evening.
The evening will include an opening film, as well as live music performed and composed by Anthony Sahyoun. For the exact location of their new cinema, click here. For updates, make sure to follow their Instagram. We’re eager to see what the future holds for Lebanese theater and cinema!
