How Are Lebanese Singer Amar and Gamal Abdel Nasser Connected?

We’re spilling some old tea about the former Egyptian president—and we never thought we’d see the day. There’s actually something that connects the Lebanese singer Amar to Gamal Abdel Nasser, and it’s a great grandson.

According to Amar, she has a connection to Gamal Abdel Nasser’s grandson, Jamal Marwan. The story began back in 2008, when she was only 22 years old and had just recorded her first song.

Amar journeyed into the music industry with the Egyptian production company “Melody”, which Abdel Nasser’s grandson owned.

They allegedly had an affair, despite the fact that Marwan was married and had a family. The relationship progressed and eventually led to a secret marriage, but it didn’t unfold the way Amar expected.

One month after their marriage, Amar told Jamal that she was pregnant. He asked her to fly to London and have an abortion, and she agreed. However, by the time she reached her fifth month of pregnancy, she refused to go through with the abortion. This is when the trouble began.

Since Amar refused to go through with the abortion, he took the marriage contract and fled, denying both their marriage and even knowing her. Amar then turned to the Lebanese and Egyptian courts, filing lawsuits to prove the paternity of their son, Jimmy. However, his influence proved stronger (obviously). All the cases were ruled in his favor.

In 2011, Amar had her son, who she named “Jimmy” as a nickname for Jamal, hoping that one day he might acknowledge him as his son. She tried every possible way to get him to do a DNA test, even sending him pictures of his son in hopes of changing his mind. Even when the case became public, Marwan remained unmoved.

A few years ago, Amar posted a photo of her son on her Instagram Story, alongside Jamal Marwan and Gamal Abdel Nasser to show the resemblance. Amar captioned the photo: “The father, the son, the grandfather.”

Last month, Amar shared that for the first time in his life, Jimmy was able to travel outside of Lebanon. She didn’t explain how she managed to arrange the paperwork, especially since she couldn’t pass down her Lebanese nationality. However, there were rumors that she used her American citizenship to register him under her name.

Anyway, this is Amar’s side of the story. It doesn’t seem like Jamal Marwan has any intention of sharing his version, but one thing is for sure—this remains one of the most scandalous stories that shook the Arab world.
