Celine Haidar, a talented young member of the Lebanese women’s national football team, was severely injured following an enemy airstrike on Beirut’s Chiyah area this weekend.
According to LBCI, Haidar was quickly transported to the Saint George Hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery.
Former teammate and women’s football journalist Assile Toufaily dispelled rumors about Haidar’s death and confirmed that Haidar remains unconscious and in critical condition.
The football community and advocates for women’s sports worldwide are urged to reflect on this heartbreaking incident as they continue to allow this to happen with impunity.
Haidar’s family and friends started a campaign in her honor. The donations will not only support her recovery but also help provide basic necessities for those displaced by the war. Those who wish to contribute can send donations via OMT Wallet, WHISH, Taptap Send, or Sendwave to +961 71 929 096.
Haidar is not just an athlete but a beacon of hope and inspiration. She represents the drive of Lebanese women in sports. Our thoughts are with the young athlete and her family as she fights to recover.
