94-Year-Old Lebanese Teta Still Remembers Fairuz Song Despite Alzheimer’s

A sweet video posted by Sarah on TikTok showed her 94-year-old Lebanese teta, who, despite struggling with Alzheimer’s, still knew the words to a Fairuz song.

In the video, Sarah starts off the famous tune, which her teta quickly picks up and continues. Without missing a beat, she sings along and taps her cane on the floor to the rhythm. You can watch the full video here:

Sarah captioned the video: “Fairuz is the definition of Lebanese culture.” And we couldn’t agree more! For many Lebanese, her voice is a symbol of nostalgia, resilience, and pride. During the civil war, her songs brought people hope, played across all radio stations in a time of divide. To read more about this, click here.

It’s not just this Lebanese teta who loves and appreciates Fairuz. The legendary singer has a voice that transcends boundaries and borders, touching hearts across the world with her melodies. Did you know that Macklemore’s hit song Hind’s Hall, which he released in support of Palestine, actually samples Fairuz’s Ana La Habibi? You can read all about it here.
