During such challenging times, it is important to prioritize your mental health and well-being. While there are many free or affordable mental health services available, Lebanon has a National Mental Health Program (NMHP) designed to support its citizens. Here’s everything you need to know about this program.
Launched back in 2014, the program was launched with the support of the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, and International Medical Corps (IMC). The program aims to improve mental health care in Lebanon by offering a wide range of services that go beyond traditional medical treatment and focus on community support.
One of the main initiatives of the NMHP is the Step-by-Step program. This 5-week mental health support program, created in partnership with the WHO, is based on proven methods. It is easy to use and can be accessed through their app or website. Participants will receive weekly phone support from trained non-specialist to provide guidance throughout the program.
The Step-by-Step program is free and confidential, making it a valuable resource for anyone dealing with difficult emotions and stress. Whether you’re experiencing anxiety, depression, or just need support during tough times, this program is designed to improve your mental well-being.
You can download the app on iOS and Android.
On their website, you’ll also find a directory filled with mental healthcare providers and organizations all over Lebanon. You can find a nearby provider based on the type of care you’re seeking, including group therapy, recreational activities, family support, and much more.
The directory details the organization name, the activities they provide, where they’re located, and their contact information. Click here to browse their directory.
Embrace is running Lebanon’s National Lifeline (1564), providing emotional support and suicide prevention in partnership with the NMHP. According to Embrace, a suicide occurs every 2.1 days, and an attempt is made every 6 hours in Lebanon.
The purpose of the lifeline is to provide confidential support and break the stigma surrounding suicide and mental health. Those struggling with their mental health can call this lifeline in order to:
– Receive immediate emotional support and crisis management
– Receive an evaluation of suicide risk and intervention strategies
– Connect you to local resources for further assistance

A training program from the World Health Organization (WHO) that focuses on stress management inspired the Self-Help+ Podcast. Originally designed for groups of about 30 people, the program was transformed into five convenient podcast episodes for you to enjoy at your own pace.
In these episodes, you’ll discover useful techniques and exercises to cope with daily stress and boost your mental health.
Additionally, the SH+ Podcast comes with a video guide called “Doing What Matters in Times of Stress.” This guide adds a visual element to the topics discussed in the episodes, ensuring you fully grasp the material. Click here to find the video guide available in Arabic and English.
