LRI: The Initiative Leading Lebanon’s Reforestation Efforts

Deforestation has become a major issue in Lebanon, driven largely by the country’s ongoing energy crisis. Over the past few decades—especially in recent years—the country has experienced a significant loss of tree cover. Thankfully, Lebanon Reforestation Initiative (LRI) has stepped in to revive Lebanon’s green landscapes. Here’s how you can contribute to this awesome community-based initiative!

How can YOU help LRI revive Lebanon’s forests?

Apart from the many projects, campaigns, and events, LRI actually has a community-based approach that lets people contribute to making Lebanon green again. Here are some of the cool ways that you can contribute and help the initiative with their operations (and that’s apart from partaking in their programs!).

– Adopt a tree

– Adopt a family of trees

– Adopt a site

By choosing one of these contribution packages (you can find their prices here), you’ll join a vibrant community dedicated to slowing down—and hopefully reversing—deforestation in Lebanon.

Apart from developing programs and campaigns to revive forestry in Lebanon, this initiative is focused on spreading awareness on the importance of reforestation. Reforestation is synonymous with providing rich habitats for animals, reducing noise pollution, mitigating climate change, and engaging local communities.

What has LRI done so far?

The NGO has been working tirelessly since their establishment in 2014, and their achievements have exceeded expectations! Here are some of their most impressive highlights:

1,551,290 seedlings planted

76% average survival rate

236,364 tons of CO2 reduced

4,775 HA of land management

18,470 job opportunities created

27% women engaged

65% youth engaged

– 241 community engaged

LRI is only one of many wonderful initiatives in Lebanon that are trying to make the country a better place to live, for us and its wildlife! For more information, make sure to check out their website and stay updated on all their events through Instagram.
