Falafel Arnaout: A Foodie Gem in the Heart of Nabatieh

What is one thing you’ll always experience when strolling through the souq in Nabatieh? The delightful smell of falafel. Now a piece of the city’s rich heritage, that smell comes from a small shop that is over 70 years old called Falafel Arnaout.

A family-run business that has been around for three generations, and it’s considered the oldest falafel shop in the area. The Arnaout family has since mastered the art of creating the yummiest, crunchiest, and most flavorful falafel ball – and their story started in 1948.

It all began when Grandpa Hamad Al Arnaout journeyed to Palestine in search of a job. In the heart of Haifa, he discovered a falafel shop where he learned the secret to making the perfect falafel. Inspired by this newfound knowledge, he returned to Nabatieh with a mission to share this delicious tradition.

Starting from humble beginnings, the small shop quickly became a local gem that is loved by many to this day.

The falafel sandwich was known as la2met el fa2ir (which loosely translates to “a poor man’s bite”), a modest yet satisfying meal that was accessible to all. Delicious falafel patties, freshly made tahini, a bit of fresh vegetables, pickles, and the shop’s special touch—it’s a bite that takes you on a journey to Palestine with the Arnaout family.
