There are so many internationally acclaimed Lebanese establishments that have made it to World’s Best lists and Michelin guides, but let’s tell you about this Beirut gem that has been around for almost 120 years.
El Soussi is one of Beirut’s oldest and most loved gems. Located in Zeidaniyeh, this iconic spot has been serving the yummiest traditional breakfast since 1910. The family restaurant has been passed down for generations starting with its founder Abou Mahmoud El Soussi, and it is now owned by Raji El Kebbe.
Serving up delicious local favorites like foul, hummus, balila, fatteh, sawda, and eggs with kawarma, El Soussi is known not only for their perfected recipes but their warmth and hospitality. This Beirut gem stands as an embodiment of Lebanese culinary tradition. Every dish tells a story of heritage and love for food.
Back in 2013, CNN released their Best Breakfasts in the World, with a list of 10 establishments that were selected for ‘being a part of its hometown’s cultural fabric’. And standing proudly at the number one spot was our beloved El Soussi for their impeccable fatteh.
Though we already knew that this spot was one of the best (and it still is a local favorite to this day), we’re glad it received the international recognition it deserves.
Make sure to watch out for the CNN article that they have pinned up on their wall!
El Soussi’s yummy breakfast will always be number one in our hearts.
