5 of the Quirkiest Structures To Visit In Lebanon

We know Lebanon is mostly known for its nature and cuisine, but did you know that it has some of the quirkiest structures out there? If you want to keep your weekend plans interesting, you might want to give these 5 quirky spots a visit.

1. The Palace of Dreams in Bakhaoun

Qasr el Ahlam is the lifework of Lebanese visionary Mohamad Hawchar, who collected stones from all over the world to assemble it. The gorgeous castle took 25 years to build and stands today as an architectural piece of art in the heart of Lebanon.

2. Chateau du Liban in Kousba

Dentist Dr. Sarraf built this mysterious black castle sometime in the 1970s, constructed completely out of black basalt stones transported from Akkar. The museum attached to the castle is filled with sculptures and paintings, as well as items from Dr. Sarraf’s clinics.

3. The Smurf House in Rachana

It’s not really the Smurf House, but that would have been a very cool name. This is actually the house of the talented Basbous brothers in the heart of Rachana, who turned the village into an open air museum with their marvelous sculptures.

4. The Airplane House in Mizyara

The Airplane House is a custom-made home in the northern town. Michael Suleiman intentionally built this structure to resemble the Airbus A380 to satisfy his childhood fascination with airplanes. And now it’s a cool tourist attraction! A stoll around Mizyara will show off a ton of other cool properties as well.

5. The hand at the top of Jabal Al-Arbaeen

This cool structure has a spectacular view from the top of Jabal Al-Arbaeen. If you’re looking for the perfect Instagram picture, this is going to be it.
