In the heart of Arz lies La Jetée, a captivating site that holds mystery and charm. It is a must-visit escape that offers a remarkable journey beyond the ordinary. Beneath its romantic allure, however, lies a tragic history that adds depth to its enchantment. This must-visit escape offers a remarkable journey that intertwines beauty with a sorrowful past.

Upon arriving, you will find yourself facing a breathtaking view, revealing the north most stunning vista. Tucked amidst this picturesque landscape is the enigmatic Qadisha Cave, a marvel hidden beneath the valley floor.

The history behind this place and its mysterious name, La Jetée, tells a chilling story that reflects the struggles faced by the region’s people and the living spirit of Mount Lebanon. While visually mesmerizing, this place holds a haunting history deeply rooted in time.

During the Ottoman era, a horrible practice took place—individuals were secretly disposed of from the valley’s edge, a ritual designed to shroud their fate in secrecy. The depths of the abyss swallowed them, erasing their presence along with the stories they carried.

Ottoman authorities periodically gathered dissidents, rebels, and even individuals they deemed as criminals, condemning them to their chosen destiny. Although centuries have passed, we still don’t know the exact number of lives lost in the valley.

The Qadisha Valley, often called the ‘guardian of a nation’s secrets and spirit,’ has a strong connection to the land, nature, and the stories it holds.

When the French came to Lebanon, they put an end to a terrible practice. The place then got its name “La Jetée” from the French word “jeter,” which means “to throw.” As time passed, the area changed. It become an attractive destination for visitors from all over Lebanon.

This once haunted place became lively again. Couples visited for its peacefulness, poets sought inspiration from the cedar trees, and artists worked under the open sky. The world melts away, replaced by the region’s natural charm and the story of the Qannoubine Valley.
