Who else grew up listening to Massari? Well, ever since his self-titled debut album, we haven’t heard much from him. Why is that? Let’s start off with a little refresher about who Massari is, for the youngsters who didn’t get to experience his music.
Massari is a Lebanese-Canadian singer who makes R&B, crunk, and hip-hop music. His real name is actually Sari Abboud, for those who don’t know (including me, I just found this out), and turning Sari into Massari – that’s actually a pretty clever name.
He was born on December 10, 1980, so that makes him 43 years old. Basically, he’s currently the same age as Kim Kardashian, Ryan Gosling, and Channing Tatum. And he’s only a little older than Myriam Fares and Nancy Ajram.
I first heard of Massari when my mom made a CD (yes, we did that back in the day) full of songs she really liked, including a few Madonna hits, some Britney, and LOTS of Micheal Jackson (problematic now, but whatever). “Real Love” was also on that CD.
If you haven’t heard this BANGER of a song…I feel bad for you. The song was giving early Mariah Carey meets Mr. Worldwide, “Real Love” perfectly captured early 2000s R&B, with a little Arabic flare that made it so appealing to the Lebanese audience.
Back then, Lebanese music was actually really good. It had a Western sound to it, like Sabine’s “B3atli Email” and Myriam Fares’s “Eid Elly Byehsal” – but the difference is, his songs were fully in English.
You could easily listen to those Massari hits now and still vibe to them because they’re just that good…and kinda scandalous. I suppose any Lebanese artist with a second (non-Arab or Middle Eastern) nationality could get away with it, and get away with it he did.
What prompted this article was actually ACCIDENTALLY coming across a creator on TikTok who was making a video and then…Massari appears behind her out of nowhere. It had been a long time since I saw him literally anywhere. Apart from that one Murex D’or Fairuz tribute…we all remember that one. Was it that moment that kinda ended his career? It needs to be studied.
Anyway, turns out…he’s married now! My younger self would have died.
@sahargol Happy 1 month weding anniversary @Massari 😂♥️🥰 #sherine #arabproblems #arabwedding #arabtiktok ♬ оригинальный звук – ALVUWKI
He’s married to Sahar Golestani, an LA-based model and business owner. Honestly, they’re a very cute couple! And we’re glad that Massari is making sure that she knows all there is to know about Arab culture. From the amazing music to the over-the-top Lebanese weddings that we all love (but lowkey hate).
They tied the knot a month ago on December 8…and their wedding? Very Lebanese.
@sahargol So many comments that i cant dance, and im here to say, i know 😂. #persianknifedance #knifedance👰🏻♀️ ♬ Eshveh – Bijan Mortazavi
But Massari didn’t stop making music. He actually has an insane collaboration with the talented Palestinian-Chilean singer Elyanna called “Ana Lahaly”.
And of course, his song “Ya Nour El Ein” with Maya Diab and French Montana.
Maybe some people were already aware of Massari’s whereabouts, but I genuinely haven’t heard from him since “Real Love”.
Also…why does he look exactly like he did in 2012?
