Yes, we know that Mariah Carey starts defrosting as early as November 1st. We can’t deny that her iconic “All I Want For Christmas Is You” is and always will be THE Christmas song of the century, and some may go so far as say that is the best ever Christmas song in human history.
However, there’s a demographic that believes that this isn’t THE Christmas song. Other responses include “Last Christmas” by Wham!, or even “Mistletoe” by Justin Bieber and “Santa Tell Me” by Ariana Grande (not judging…but kinda, yes). I was genuinely surprised by the Top 40 Christmas Songs of the 21st Century.
I’m here to tell you that you’re all wrong. Lebanon actually has some of the most iconic Christmas songs, ever. Fairuz did not bust her ass making the most Christmas-y of Christmas carols for you to crown Mariah Carey the queen of this holiday.
In fact, Fairuz released “Laylet Eid” 17 years before Mariah Carey dropped her fourth studio album, which included the famous song.
And what about Majida El Roumi’s “De2 Bwabon”?
Let’s not forget that Lebanese singer Yara also dropped this BANGER of a Christmas song a few years back. Tell me this doesn’t make you walk with a little holiday jingle in your step. Someone sign me up to be one of Santa’s reindeers.
We’re not saying that Mariah’s song isn’t AMAZING. It is. We all love it. It doesn’t feel like Christmas without it. But come on, show some patriotism.
I don’t know about you, but I literally don’t want anyone for Christmas. I just want to enjoy a good holiday dinner, visit a few Christmas markets, and whip out those fuzzy winter blankets with giant roses on them (you know what I’m talking about). Yalle fine mkaffine.
Anyway, make sure to check out #Holidays2023 if you’re looking to squeeze in some festivity before the new year.
