While many local businesses have tried to keep spirits up by maintaining their regularly scheduled events, some have admirably decided to take a much more definitive stance in light of the atrocities taking place in Gaza and South Lebanon.
One such place is Al Shams Restaurant in Anjar which announced the cancellation of all planned Christmas and New Year’s Eve festivities due to the ongoing conflicts in Gaza and South Lebanon. The Lebanese restaurant shared on their Instagram account, “In solidarity with our family in South Lebanon and Gaza, we are cancelling all Christmas and New Year’s events at Al Shams – Anjar. Wishing everyone well.”
The post received an overwhelmingly positive response, with over 3,600 likes and counting as well as many comments expressing respect for this decision.
Last week, a global show of solidarity for Gaza and Palestine materialized through a widespread strike. Many local businesses observed this strike, opting not to work nor make any transactions or purchases.
