The Story Of The Youngest Miss Lebanon (She Was Only 15)

Many people don’t know that back in 1968, a young girl from Tripoli was crowned Miss Lebanon. She remains the youngest contestant to ever win the Miss Lebanon crown in the history of the pageant.

After winning the title of Miss Tripoli, Layla El Bissar was encouraged to participate in the Miss Lebanon pageant by poet Said Akl, who was a friend of her parents at the time. Layla came back with the crown and was sent to represent Lebanon in the Miss World pageant in 1968 despite being underage.

It was said that Layla’s mom (who was also named Layla) was also known for her beauty. Some speculate that she was proposed to by an Arab king, but she rejected him to marry a Tripolitan man.

At the Miss World pageant, Layla was disqualified the night before the finals after the organizers found out she was only 15. Contestants under the age of 18 were not permitted to participate. We’re not sure how Layla made it so far without revealing her age.
