This Adorable Bookshop Just Launched A “Book For $1” Initiative
Looking for your next read or simply addicted to hoarding books? We’ve got just the place for you! Kitabi is an adorable bookshop in Hamra that will have every bookworm squirming with excitement. With a variety of new and secondhand (and extremely affordable) selection of English, French, and Arabic books, you’re bound to find something for everyone at Kitabi.
In a bid to encourage reading and keep it affordable amid a worsening crisis, Kitabi created a group chat through which customers can reserve and purchase books for only $1 (at the daily market rate).
Juliette, who has been managing Kitabi alongside Ayad since its opening, said to Beirut.com: “We started this initiative because we want readers to keep reading”.
The economic crisis in Lebanon has caused many bookstores to close their doors, and readers have been discouraged from purchasing books because of their extremely high prices.
Even if you’re not purchasing books via this initiative, Kitabi ensures that their prices remain as affordable as possible, especially through their large selection of preloved books.
