Blast Survivor Liliane Cheito’s Family Launches Fundraiser For Her Treatment Abroad

Over two years have passed since Liliane Cheito sustained a significant head injury due to the August 4 blast. Since then, she has been fighting a difficult battle to survive and be allowed to mother to her child.

Despite the fact that she has made strides in her recovery, Cheito remains mostly paralyzed and is in desperate need of specialized rehabilitation that is not available in Lebanon. Earlier this year, the Jaafari court withheld her passport as a result of an ongoing claim that was filed by her ex-husband, that also prevented her from seeing her son, so she was unable to seek medical care abroad.

Liliane’s family has set up a GoFundMe campaign to raise $350,000 for her treatment in Turkey, since their frozen bank savings are inaccessible. She will need to undergo therapy for a duration of 18-months to be able to regain her mobility and speech.

The Lebanese government, religious courts, and collapsing healthcare sector have failed Liliane as she continues her struggle alone. Her case only proves the collective paralysis of a country that does little for its people.
