Wildfires Rage Through Akkar
During one of the hottest months of summer, multiple wildfires have broken out through the Akkar region.
Residents have issued repeated calls throughout the week for help amid the fires’ fast spread. The wildfires have appeared in different villages across North Lebanon.
The Lebanese Civil Defense, Lebanese Army, municipal officials, and other local actors have been working to extinguish the flames.
As the effects of climate change ravage countries all over the world, Lebanon has become increasingly vulnerable to these bouts of forest fires. With firefighters underpaid and equipment underfunded, these wildfires have the potential to eviscerate the country’s remaining green areas.
