AUB Announces Shireen Abu Akleh Memorial Scholarship
As the world reels from the violent murder of Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, we were touched to see that the American University of Beirut (AUB) decided to honor her memory by announcing an endowed memorial scholarship.
In partnership with the Yafa Foundation, the Shireen Abu Akleh Endowed Memorial Scholarship will fund scholarships for women from Palestine to obtain master’s degrees in media studies at AUB. Applications are to be considered immediately.
In a message to the AUB community, President Fadlo Khuri said, “The murder of the iconic Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh on May 11, 2022 did more than deprive the world of a brave, determined, accomplished woman journalist of the highest caliber. It removed an undeterred champion of Palestine, a symbol of hope, a voice for the voiceless, and an inspiration to brave women everywhere.”
