Lebanon Submits ‘Costa Brava, Lebanon’ To Oscars For Best International Film

Lebanese Director Mounia Akl’s newest film “Costa Brava, Lebanon” has officially been submitted to the 2022 Oscar Nominations for “Best International Film”.

This bittersweet dramedy revolves around the Badri family dealing with a horrific garbage crisis in Lebanon. The family escapes the polluted city to a mountain home they built, but unfortunate events lead to a pile-up of garbage in a landfill right next door to their new home. The film’s events were inspired by Lebanon’s garbage crisis of 2015, during which the streets of Beirut and other areas overflowed with trash leading to the You Stink protests at the time.

Starring Nadine Labaki and Saleh Bakri, the film has already won the FIPRESCI International Critics Prize at El Gouna Film Festival, as well as the audience award at the London Film Festival.

We wish Mounia Akl good luck, hopefully leading to an Oscar nomination!
