October 10 marked World Mental Health Day which is also served as a kind reminder for all of us to pay attention to our mental well-being, and that of those we love.
Over the past two years, Lebanon has witnessed inexplicably difficult events — two explosions, a horrific economic crisis, and a shortage of basic necessities, including fuel and medicine. Simply put, the country has been in a state of utter chaos. Amidst these difficult times, it’s a known fact that we undermine the importance of a healthy state of mind.
Several NGO’s such as Embrace, IDRAAC, BeBraveBeirut and many others have offered free services to provide as much support as possible. We send out love and respect to all the organizations working to provide mental health services, particularly during the past three years.
Equally as important is the general sentiment that we are solely responsible for the way we feel and thus, we have control over it. People struggling are often encouraged to “snap out of it” – something that is probably impossible for most.
