August 4 Victim’s Brother Posts Heart Wrenching Sign At Explosion Site

The Minister of Health in Lebanon’s caretaker government Hamad Hassan sparked outrage on Monday after he was quoted calling the horrific and devastating deaths that were a result of the August 4 explosion “fate”.

The comment angered many and drew criticism from individuals who lost close friends and family members because of a blast that was a direct result of governmental negligence.

William Noun, brother of the late Joe Noun who fell victim to the Beirut blast, took it upon himself to erect a sign at the blast site that reads, “No, Hamad Hassan, this massacre is not fate; it’s corruption, terrorism, and criminal negligence.”

Award-winning Lebanese film director Lucien Bourjeily took to twitter to ask why those in charge were in positions of responsibility, if they are not responsible for anything.

This was not an instance of fate; August 4th was a result of governmental irresponsibility, negligence, and failed institutions filled with the same people who have been leading the country into a downward spiral for many years now.

The promised 5-day investigation is still nonexistent, 5 months later. Our hope is that someday those responsible for the horrific blast will be held accountable for their crimes.
