Minister of Interior Strikes Again: Women Can’t Be PM In Lebanon

Lebanese Minister of Interior Mohammad Fehmi strikes again with yet another stereotypical and sexist statement.

In a televised interview with TV host Neshan, the minister was asked if he believes that women can be appointed as Prime Ministers.

Reluctantly, the minister answered: “yes, but…”

He went on to explain that while he believes in women’s role in society (yi thanks, 3azzabnek), he doesn’t believe they would be fit to be PM in Lebanon because by nature, women are “decent, soft, and shy”.

As such, they can’t run the country as excellently as all previous male Prime Ministers have so far. *Note the sarcasm.*

We won’t go into detail as to why the minister’s statement is disturbing, especially coming from someone in power who should have more progressive views to lead the country into a better state.

But we will just remind him that countries who had the best response to the coronavirus pandemic were all female-led, meanwhile the best approach he could come up with was the even/odd license plate rule.

This comes after the minister also jokingly suggested that “women cook on Sundays” in another interview when asked about the total lockdown in the country.
