If you have graduated from the Lebanese American University, then you certainly vividly remember President Joseph G. Jabbra’s signature closing:
“No matter where you are, no matter where you go, no matter what you do, don’t forget LAU”.
That phrase has been the most memorable part of his speeches to students and alumni during every graduation ceremony for the past 16 years, but now, the roles have been reversed, with news of Dr. Jabbra stepping down as President.
With heartfelt sentiment, students are addressing Dr. Jabbra, asking him “not to forget LAU”, and thanking him for his efforts and achievements.
Dr. Joseph G. Jabbra was first appointed President of LAU back in 2004, and has since worked diligently to develop it into one of the leading educational institutions in the MENA region, shaping it into a progressive and innovative world-class university.
But after 16 long years of tremendous leadership, Dr. Jabbra has decided to step down and make room for his successor, Dr. Michel E. Mawad, dean of the Gilbert and Rose-Marie Chagoury School of Medicine (SOM), who will assume the presidency role as of October 1, 2020.
In the face of the coronavirus outbreak in Lebanon, Dr. Mawad recently launched the LAU Mobile Clinic and the LAU Coronavirus Telecare, offering free-of-charge PCR testing across Lebanon and free consultation to patients, a heartwarming highlight to add to his stellar career.
