Foster + Partners Wins International Competition To Design Headquarters For Alibaba Company

The design firm Foster + Partners has won an international competition to design the Shanghai headquarters for Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba (the group that owns the popular website AliExpress).


The design provided had been guided by an innovative process that uses a complex algorithm to optimize the structural outcome. The algorithm combines several aspects that are crucial to the project such as, being highly responsive to environmental conditions, maximizing outside views, and the specific area requirements for different functions, to create the most appropriate form.
