Accused Serial Harasser In Lebanon, Over 50 Testimonies And Counting
Over the past few days, more than 50 young women have come forward to share their traumatizing experiences with Marwan Habib, an accused serial harasser.
According to the many stories, Marwan Habib often lurks around Hamra and Bliss Street, forcefully approaching women and sexually harassing them either verbally, physically, or by stalking them on social media. He has also been spotted in different areas around Lebanon.
We’d like to acknowledge the courage of all the women that have decided to speak up, knowing how difficult it must be for them. According to the stories that surfaced, several of the women even tried reporting him to authorities at some point but to no avail.
Here are some of the harrowing testimonies that have been shared on Instagram:
1. “He followed me into the showers after my boxing lessons and tried to corner me in one of the shower stalls. I pushed him out and filed a complaint.”
2. “He is a rapist. He hid my keys so I wouldn’t leave. He’s fucking huge he suffocated me. I screamed and he wouldn’t move a muscle.. I have a whole story that I really don’t want to recap, he traumatized me. Stop defending this dangerous piece of shit.”
3. “I was on Bliss once, going back from university at like 7 PM and he started talking to me then pointed out at his building and said he lives here and let’s go up and have some wine and watch a movie. I was like no thanks, he kept saying no let’s go and kept following me as I was walking. Two weeks later, he did the same thing to my mom in Hamra and was asking her if she would come over and she started yelling at him.”
4. “My brother’s friend told my brother that he lived in his building and would hear girls screaming every night next to the door in an abnormal way and he felt something was wrong because of the screaming and the noises and he heard stuff break all the time.
5. “He’s literally dangerous. I happened to end up being his neighbor for a month because the natour didn’t warn us about him, although we later on knew that they’d received 10000s of comments about him. One night (before we knew who he is), we went to knock on his door and tell him to turn down his loud music at night and he opened up completely naked. By the time we moved out (few weeks later), I caught him dry humping the wall near my room and he tried to literally rape my roomie. We reported to darak and they did LITERALLY NOTHING.”
6. “He harassed my sister as well (she was older than him). He said he’s got a fetish to sleep with hijabi women.”
7. “I saw him during the thawra and he tried to convince me to go with him for lunch and stuff when I told him I’m ONLY 15. I’m a minor. He said he likes young girls, I ran away from him and he kept following me until I threatened to call the police. When I did call them, they did absolutely nothing.”
8. “Once I was waiting in the Grand Factory line with a friend and he came up to me with two huge guys and started telling me how hot I am and how he MUST have me. I told him I have a boyfriend (lied to get him away) and that I wasn’t interested, he left. After 5 minutes or so while staring at me from across and clearly talking about me with his friends, he came like a fucking OGRE towards me and grabbed my face and kissed me.”
9. “He literally invited himself to sit down with my friend and I. When my friend stood up to go to the bathroom, he looked at her butt, got up saying one minute, followed her to the bathroom, grabbed her by the arm saying: I’m sorry but you’re so sexy, I need to (sleep with you – for a choice of better words) in the bathroom now.”
10. “A year ago, he randomly sat next to me in Hamra and started asking me random questions. He asked me what’s my height, he mentioned that he is much taller so he is able to flip me and get creative with it. He then proceeded to open his legs and ask me if I can read body language, I ran away.”
11. “He followed my friend in a bar and locked himself with her in the bar and tried to forcefully kiss her. He texted me too and I used to see him often. He stares a lot and has a really weird vibe.”
