This Video Of Two Hyenas Being Rescued From A Lebanese Zoo Will Warm Your Heart

Despite the current political turmoil, Animals Lebanon managed to rescue two hyenas that were illegally captured and kept at a zoo, releasing them in the Shouf Biosphere.

Striped hyenas are actually Lebanon’s national animals, and their survival is being threatened due to illegal practices like their capturing and killing.

The rescuers found the two hyenas, who had been captured with snares, living in a confined cement space. The small space also had the hyenas’ footprints all over, a sign of them trying repeatedly to escape. The roadblocks also made it hard for the rescuers to reach, leading to the rescheduling of the mission three times.

A wildlife vet was flown in to sedate them and give them a health check up. They were then quickly moved into a transport crate to be freed in the Shouf reserve.

We wish the two wonderful hyenas, named Freedom and Unity, the smoothest reintroduction to their natural habitat!
