Quinoa is a thing of the past. Move over Kale, because we’ve got some new tasty food trends to indulge in. Here are 8 food trends you absolutely must try in Beirut (and more importantly before new trends replace them)!
1. Poké

The Poké craze has landed in Lebanon and we love it! This Hawaiian salad-bar-meets-sushi street food mostly consists of diced sashimi served over rice (or quinoa, why?!) and topped with add-ons including avocado, sesame, nuts, seaweed – the list goes on.
Have you ever had the unfortunate experience that is “the dreadfully dry sandwich”? This is where French dip sandwiches come in to save the day. Your meal is served with an actual (deep) sauce dip to dunk your sandwich in!
Why can’t local favorites be part of the latest food trend? Master Chef Maroun Chedid has already added Lebanese favorites like knefe to chocolate fondant and even halewe to his layered cakes! The flavors are mind-blowingly exceptional. Even our favorite 555 biscuit maker, Gandour, has made a new biscuit sandwiching a layer of halewe.
Asian cuisine fans can rejoice! Specialized in delicious ramen and donburi, DON Eatery has finally opened in Beirut. If you haven’t given that a try, now’s your chance to experience Asian cuisine without actually packing your bags and traveling East.
Where to get it? DON Eatery
5. Truffle

We’re seeing it more and more on new menus and updated menus of the restaurants we visit, but have you truly experienced a good truffle dish? We like it with ravioli and pizza, I’m sure many of you have already ticked this one off your list; if you haven’t, shame on you.
Where to get it? Almost everywhere now since it’s so popular, but our top picks are the exquisite Truffle Ravioli at SUD and Ritage by Maroun Chedid
6. Breakfast all day!

There is indeed a shortage of all-day breakfast spots in Lebanon and more restaurants and cafés are finally serving an all-day breakfast menu! Who doesn’t want eggs and pancakes for dinner?
Before breakfast all day, brunches were a thing – and they STILL are a popular weekend trend! Brunch is basically breakfast and lunch combined. If you like to sleep in on the weekends, brunch is your best option for a delicious late breakfast, followed by lunch favorites. They usually last up to 4 hours, so take your time to indulge.
What do normal cookies look like? I don’t think the Lebanese society can ever get back to plain ol’ chocolate chip cookies after these stuffed cookies came into town. Get your cookies filled with Oreos, KitKat, Nutella, you name it, they do it!
