Take A Look At These Powerful Photos From Sunday’s Migrant Workers Protest
While many of us were celebrating Labor Day, hundreds of others were still working without basic rights, and basic respect.
Those forgotten are the migrant workers that hold Lebanese society together through doing the jobs that nobody else wants to do: from their roles as housekeepers to Sukleen workers and janitorial staff.
This Sunday saw a powerful protest sweep the streets of Beirut, with migrant workers peacefully demanding their basic rights. These are as simple as being included in the Lebanese labour law, and the abolition of kafala system that mirrors modern day slavery.

The march ended with speeches and music from protestors’ home countries. This is the eighth year in a row that this protest is held, and unfortunately, not much has changed since it began. Migrant deaths are still on the rise, barbaric abuse still occurs, and deportations and detentions have yet to decrease.
