These Are The Lebanese Athletes Participating In The Summer Olympics In Rio

World class Lebanese athletes are set to compete in the Summer Olympics that will kick off in less than one week’s time in Rio de Janeiro. While most of us will be rooting for them from afar, they are sure to be crowd pleasers considering the thousands of Brazilian-Lebanese who will pack the stadiums. Not surprising, the Consulate General of Lebanon in Rio has sent out a press release reminding Lebanese to make sure to bring out their flags!

Here is a run down of who you can expect to see next week:

1. Richard Merjan



He will be competing in the Men’s C-1, which marks the first time Lebanon has competed in canoeing. Follow his journey on Facebook here.


2. Mona Shaito

3. Elias Nacif



Representing Lebanon in Judo, he will be participating in the half-middleweight category. You can follow him on Instagram: @nacifelias


4. Ray Bassil



Watch her take part in the shooting event (women’s trap). She is the only professional woman shooter in Lebanon! Follow her on Instagram: @rayjbassil


5. Anthony Barbar & Gabriella Doueihy

6. Marianna Sahakian



Watch her as she goes for gold in the women’s singles for table tennis.


7. Chirine Njeim



A well-known champion skier, (she had made three Olympic ski teams!) Njeim will be competing in the marathon event. She is one of the few athletes in history to compete both in the summer and winter Olympics.
