I don’t like sandwiches. No really, I don’t eat them unless my grandma makes me. This is mainly because I don’t usually find that sandwiches are worth the carb-overload they provide. But when you find that perfect sandwich; that amazing bread to filling ratio bursting with flavors and textures, suddenly it’s all worth it. Here are five amazing places to grab a delicious sandwich in Beirut:
A great new sandwich shop at an optimal location between Gemmayze and Mar Mikhael. Sandwich W Noss serves great Lebanese-style sandwiches that come with good ingredients and at a great value. Must-try sandwiches include: the chicken Francisco, the toasted kafta sandwich, and the massive burger.
Marrouche has the best shawarma ever. I know I just gained a mob of haters considering the number of shawarma places in Lebanon, and the fact that Marrouche is famous for the classic chicken sandwich, BUT Marrouche is definitely at the top of the list when it comes to delicious shawarma. They are always on top of their game when it comes to freshness and consistency. Don’t make any alterations, just allow them to prepare it the way they are used to.
Crumb is the first place in Lebanon that I’ve seen make some truly creative sandwiches. Some of their unique creations include ricotta-honey, labneh-pesto, camembert-raspberry. They have a knack for making sweet and savory sandwiches, and are always creating something new and fresh!
This is may be the only place in Lebanon that has thorough selection of Philly cheesesteak sandwiches. They offer a wide selection of juicy and filling sandwiches as well as authentic poutine. For those who don’t know, poutine is a Canadian speciality: French fries topped with cheese curds and gravy. Mmm. They also serve hotdogs, mouth-watering burgers, and a medley of appetizers!
5. Falafel Sahyoun (the lower one)
Your standard, perfect Falafel sandwich, unaltered by modern tastes with just the right amount of tahini and fresh mint with the falafel always fresh and flavorful. There are two Sahyoun shops right next to each other belonging to the same family, a family feud some say, but I prefer the shop lower down the hill.
