Wrapping up months of preparation with an A-list party like no other, the Social Media Awards went out with a bang that left the Lebanese community abuzz.
Taking twitter, Facebook, and everyone who’s anyone’s blog by storm, the ceremony featured the likes of Pierrette Katrib, Tom Fletcher, Adonis and the always-fabulous Haifa Wehbe. Amidst a chorus of speeches and a plethora of finger-food, hundreds upon hundreds of classy-dressed tweeps, bloggers, entrepreneurs and entertainers sat gaily, engrossed in an evening that will no doubt spur a series of worldwide SMA’s in the future.
An invite-only afterparty rounded off the evening on a slightly less sober note, boasting a night of Rodge In The Mix of Mix FM DJing and open Chopin Vodka, Label 5 Scotch Whisky and Pommery Champagne. And just in case anyone needed a trinket to remember the evening by, RAGMAG was at hand, doling out prim gift bags with goodies inside.
With crowd favorites like Blog Baladi, Lebanese Memes, February 30, and (of course) Haifa Wehbe earning well deserved wins in their categories, it was interesting to see surprising wins from lesser known social media connoisseurs. Still, it was the SMA team and the audience who were the real winners of the evening; with everything going so smoothly it was hard to believe this was only the first ceremony of its kind.
If you missed out on an evening to remember, the entire thing can be summed up in the words of Tom Fletcher, who eloquently delivered a statement that is best appreciated in a light British accent: “The most powerful weapon in the Middle East is your smartphone.”
