In the face of last week’s
basketball match clash which resulted in the continuation of the Lebanese championship without a live audience, a new project is born in the hopes of promoting and influencing a peaceful sports culture that encourages social inclusion.
On Wednesday April 13th, which happened to be the International Day of Sports For Development and Peace – The United Nations Information Centre in Beirut launched
The Urban Athlete Podcast in collaboration with professional Lebanese athletes.
Dedicated to sports, the podcast focuses on the role of physical activity in improving mental health and raises awareness about the connection between sports and education, health, human rights and women empowerment.
High-level local and regional athletes will be joining host
Michel Zammar, the 2019 Wushu World Champion, and his coach
Ryan Merheb on each of the twelve episodes of the first season to share with listeners their accomplishments, recommendations, and the challenges they faced throughout the years.
The first episode featured fitness and health coach
Joanna Salameh who used the new platform to highlight the mental health benefits of sports and give tips for both youth and elderly on how to build a healthy lifestyle.
The podcast is in Arabic and can be watched on Railway Station
Web TV or on UNIC Beirut’s
YouTube Channel. It is also available on Anghami, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts.
